The project is a first for Afri-Devo and yet another milestone for our company in a number of ways. First, it marks our entry into the bulk earthworks and civil engineering arena and secondly, it is undertaken through a joint venture with Covec S.A., being a recognized global leader with more than enough expertise and experience on projects of even much greater magnitude which empowered us with requisite skills transfer and knowledge to carry on in this direction and beyond.

The project entailed carrying out bulk earthworks for a sinter, autotec, batch plants and two attenuation dams coupled with water trenches spanning more than 8 kilometres, all undertaken in a record eight months of which we are particularly proud. Almost 750 000 cubic metres of earth have been moved successfully and about cubic metres of G^ filling material utilized. Local labour of about 250 had been employed and empowered with skills to enhance their future employability in line with the Government’s ideal of creating sustainable and viable job opportunities, especially women.
