Droogfontein is amongst the first PV solar farms to be constructed in South Africa. We are delighted that our company is involved in the project and are optimistic that these projects will open doors for us in the renewable energy industry. The Department of Energy is insisting in the empowerment of BEE firms and their Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) and without doubt it is an opportunity for us.
This project is approximately 520 km from Kimberley between Carnarvon and Calvinia. It is in a remote area where there is a logistics challenge and most material is procured from Kimberley and Cape Town. Through this project we have learnt the relevance of planning and pricing appropriately, considering logistics challenges in terms of material and skilled labour.
It entails structural rectifications and re-building of previously built low cost houses with poor workmanship in two areas of the Eastern Cape, namely Ezibeleni and Venterstad. It is anticipated that Afri-Devo will be awarded more houses in this province as it has the biggest backlog in the delivery of finished low-cost houses.
The project entailed carrying out bulk earthworks for a sinter, autotec, batch plants and two attenuation dams coupled with water trenches spanning more than 8 kilometres, all undertaken in a record eight months of which we are particularly proud.
This was yet again a first of its kind for Afri-Devo as the company had not done shop fittings at this level before. The work involved partitioning, suspended ceilings, floor coverings, tiling, wall paper and forming curved bulk cades. For the main branch in Kimberley, fittings were done on three floors to the strict Standard Bank brand requirements and timelines as the branch was due for opening.
The project entailed the refurbishment and extension of one of the oldest car dealerships and petrol station in Kimberley into a fully fledged modern dealership with a service workshop, used car sales area, parking bays and a new car showroom with extended shop fronts.
The project entailed the construction of one of the biggest community clinics in the Northern Cape, coming fully-fledged with six consulting rooms and staff accommodations.
This is the first development undertaken by the company, right from inception to construction to selling the units. It comprises of 22 up-market townhouse units built in one of the prime suburbs of Kimberley, Northern Cape.
The project was turnkey, wherein we got very involved right from the onset with design work, then construction, landscaping and project management. The brief required a modern and spacious family home with state of the art finishing and comfort for everyone in the family.
